GP President Sukhendu Das, who was shot by unidentified gunman “is no more” confirms Kaushik Rai

A sad day in the history of Barak Valley. An elected Gaon Panchayat president has been shot dead in Cachar district’s Lathigram area. Sukhendu Das, BJP’s Gaon Panchayat president from Haticherra Gaon Panchayat, under Udharbond assembly constituency was riding back after attending an event when unidentified gunman shot at him and his nephew from behind.

The incident has left everyone in shock, the chief minister of the state, Sarbananda Sonowal himself spoke to Udharbond MLA, Mihir Kanti Shome and asked him to take stock of the situation. The district BJP leadership gathered at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital soon after knowing about the sad incident. District president, Kaushik Rai, BJP Spokesperson, Rajdeep Roy, Kishore Nath, SP Cachar – MugdhaJyoti Dev Mahanta among many other visited SMCH.

Das was admitted in the ICU in critical condition where he breathed his last. BJP’s district president Kaushik Rai broke the news of his death and said he is saddened. Meanwhile, Sukhendu Das’ nephew, Rinku Senapati is also in critical condition and is being treated in the SMCH. He was travelling with Das on the same motorcycle when the unidentified gunman fired at them.

What was the gun used by the gunman, how many rounds were fired, where did the miscreants get the weapon from, what was the motive behind the murder… there are many questions for the Police to investigate and find answers. For now the elected GP President did not manage to serve his term and his nephew is fighting death…
