'Green Corridor' and 'Airlift' didn't help; 33-year-old Istiak Rasool Mazumder is no more

What has become a sad turn of affairs, son of Dr. Abed Rasul Mazumder, retired Joint Director Health – Hailakandi, Istiak Rasoul Mazumder is no more. Istiak tested positive for COVID19 last week and then was admitted to a local private hospital. His condition started deteriorating and that is when his family members decided to transfer him to Kolkata.

Initially, the family consulted Apollo Hospital but the doctors there said his condition is not fit to fly. Later, after consultation with the doctors of AMRI Hospital, the family decided to airlift him.

Today, Cachar administration arranged a green corridor for the Ambulance to ply fast to the airport without getting stuck in any traffic jam. Then he was airlifted by an air-ambulance from Silchar Airport.

“After reaching Kolkata, they called us and informed that Istiak is no more. This is a sad news for the family and we need some time to mourn in peace,” said  Dr. Munim Rasool Mazumder, uncle of Istiak Rasul Mazumder.

He added, “We don’t know the exact time of death as we were informed only after the flight landed. Now the family is in deep trouble as there is no certainity on if the body could be transferred back to Silchar owing to COVID protocols of West Bengal.”

Deputy Speaker of Assam, Aminul Haque Laskar expressed his condolences. He said, “A kid dying at such a young age is an extremely sad affair.” About bringing back his mortal remains, the deputy speaker added, “I will talk to the necessary people and do my level best to ensure that we are able to bring back the mortal remains. If it is an issue by air, we will try and bring it back by road .”
