A group of animal activists took out a candle rally in Silchar on Sunday evening to protest atrocities against animals.
The rally, which saw scores of people from different walks of life, started from Rangirkhari around 6pm. The activists, carrying placards, visited different areas including Hospital Road and Premtala, and finally assembled at Rangirkhari around 7:15pm.
One of the placards said – “Saving one dog will not change the world but for that one day the world will change forever surely.“
The members raised slogans in unison to spread the message that animals are a part of the society and they should be treated with love and affection.
One of the members of the group Rupak Paul said animals, like human beings, have equal rights to live in this society. “Like us, they also have families. The common people should start accepting it and give them their desired freedom to live,” he said.
The members vociferously condemned the killing of sixteen puppies in Kolkata recently. They demanded that animal abuse be stopped and stern action be taken against those found harassing or harming animals.
Sixteen puppies were found murdered in NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on January 13. Two nursing students of the hospital were arrested in connection with the incident.
The members also urged one and all to come forward and extend their helping hand whenever they will find any stray animal in trouble. Among the group members, Aparajita Chakraborty, Sagarika Chakraborty, Nandashree Bhattacharjee, Rajdeep Banik and Biswajit Dey were present.
