Guests Turn Violent at Silchar Wedding: Woman Harassed, Husband Assaulted, 2 Arrested

An alarming incident has surfaced from a posh wedding reception party in Silchar. This incident has shocked residents of Silchar, which occurred when two youths were arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a woman at a wedding party and assaulting her husband when he tried to intervene. The incident occurred on Friday (July 11) night at a hotel on Club Road, a relatively busy but usually peaceful part of town.

The accused — Soumitra Das, a resident of Kalibarichar, and Abhijit Roy from Rongpur — were guests at the wedding party, as were the woman and her husband. Eyewitnesses allege that the duo, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, began behaving inappropriately with the woman, amounting to sexual misconduct.

When her husband objected, the situation escalated rapidly, and the two youths physically attacked him in front of other guests.

Guests at the party quickly stepped in to stop Soumitra and Abhijit and called the police. A Cachar Police team arrived at the scene and took both into custody. The woman and her husband, whose identities have not been disclosed for privacy reasons, were reportedly left shaken by the ordeal.

The arrested duo were produced before the court on Sunday (July 13) and have been remanded to judicial custody.
