The results of Gunotsav 2025, Assam’s state-wide education assessment, were announced yesterday by Samagra Shiksha, Assam, showcasing significant academic progress in the Barak Valley. All three districts—Cachar, Sribhumi, and Hailakandi—secured rankings within the top 25 out of 33 districts, highlighting some improvements in learning outcomes and school infrastructure.
Cachar led the region with an impressive 11th place, followed by Sribhumi at 18th and Hailakandi at 23rd. A substantial percentage of schools in these districts achieved top grades, with Cachar securing 49.83% A+ schools, Sribhumi at 39.45%, and Hailakandi at 32.91%. When combined with A-grade schools, the overall success rate stood at 85% for Cachar, 84.37% for Sribhumi, and 82.32% for Hailakandi.
Notably, Hailakandi recorded no D-graded schools, indicating an overall improvement in academic standards. However, despite the quality boost, its ranking dropped from 17th last year to 23rd in 2025. Sribhumi, on the other hand, saw an improvement from 20th place in 2024 to 18th this year.
The district-wise breakdown shows Cachar had 905 schools graded A+, 651 A, 185 B, 61 C, and 14 D. Sribhumi followed with 641 A+ and 730 A-graded schools, while Hailakandi recorded 335 A+ and 503 A schools, avoiding any D-grade placements.
Gunotsav 2025 also shed light on school infrastructure improvements, with Assam’s government investing in classrooms, sanitation, and electrification under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). A press release from the Cachar District Administration highlighted that the district’s ranking improved from 13th last year to 11th, with 2,175 schools assessed, covering 2,34,163 students, and an impressive 97.89% participation rate. The evaluation involved 893 external evaluators and 227 liaison officers, ensuring a fair process.
Across Assam, 13,300 schools secured A+ grades, a significant rise from 6,037 in 2017. Gunotsav 2025, conducted between January 6 and February 7, evaluated students from Classes I to IX in three phases, with senior government officials and educators overseeing the assessment.
Gunotsav continues to serve as a crucial initiative by the Assam Government to uplift education standards in government schools, ensuring a better future for students across the state.
