Hailakandi district administration commissions solar lights in villages
In a bid to ensure that the remotest village of the district are also lightened and mainstreamed, the Hailakandi District Administration has started a solar revolution project by commissioning Solar lights in villages.
“A silent solar revolution is going under Project SOURO SHAKTI in Hailakandi. The remotest corners of the district still lack electricity connectivity due to lack of terrain and off grid issues” Hailakandi administration said in a statement on Saturday.
The project has been sponsored by ONGC under its CSR initiative. Many villages, which were reeling under darkness from decades, have been covered under the project. 16 villages like Ramnathpur, Gutguti, Baruncherra, Nunai FV, Kukicherra, Kanchiwala, Ahyalapur, Sahabnara FV are in the list where 349 street lights have been installed. Another 8 villages, which were in darkness since independence, have been also covered with 80 nos of Solar street lights.
APDCL has helped connect off grid villages of Raifalmara, Bhai Bonti, Bangla Basha, Gendacherra, Gutguti, Bandukmara Grant with rooftop Solar panels covering about 1551 individual households. Medical centers and educational institutions are also covered under this Souro Shakti project. 255 street lights have been set up for Health Department alone.
DC Jalli Keerti had ceremonially inaugurated the project at Belaipur, on Saturday and said it is very empowering to see students gather under the lights to pursue their ambitions. She hoped that like the Sun, the Solar light will be a harbinger of growth and eradicator of darkness in everyone’s mind and live.
She was joined by ONGC General Manager A J Das, ADC Eldad Fairenheim ACS, Assistant Commissioner Parikshit Phukan IAS, Joint Director Dwivedi, DPM Maruf Barbhuyiyan and others.
