Hailakandi Horror: Woman Gang-Raped After Casting Vote, 2 Arrested

A heart-wrenching incident has taken place in Hailakandi, leaving the community in shock. The horrifying crime against a woman has raised serious concerns regarding public safety.

The incident occurred in the Narshingpur Tea Estate area of Hailakandi district. After casting her vote during the first phase of the Assam Panchayat Election on May 2, the woman boarded an e-rickshaw to travel from Gaglachera to Dhowarbondh. Shockingly, three men who were also on the e-rickshaw took advantage of the situation and gang-raped her.

Following this tragic incident, the victim’s family promptly lodged a complaint with the Kalachera Police Outpost in Hailakandi. Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and successfully apprehended two of the accused individuals.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Krishna Rabi Das and Munna Kairi. However, one of the accused remains absconding.

In an effort to gather further details, Barak Bulletin attempted to contact Hailakandi Superintendent of Police (SP) Leena Doley. Unfortunately, despite repeated attempts, there was no response.

As per reports, the investigation into this heinous crime is still ongoing. The victim is currently receiving treatment at Santosh Kumar Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi. Further updates are awaited.
