It’s not an easy time for the political fraternity of Hailakandi and Assam. Last week, a 19-year-old housewife lodged a complaint in Hailakandi police station and accused MLA Nizam Uddin Choudhury of raping her multiple occasions. Well, today, the high profile case has taken a new turn, the housewife, called the media and confessed that Choudhury is innocent and she was lying all the while. She said that under the instruction of AGP leader Aftab Uddin, she lied and dragged Nizam Uddin in the conspiracy.
“Since our marriage, my husband Sahid Ahmed and I, have not been able to get along well. To find a solution to this, I went to meet the AGP leader Aftab Uddin with my brother, and he suggested me to lodge a complaint against Nizam Uddin and accuse him of rape,” said the housewife (in Bengali). She added that she is guilty of committing such a crime and demeaning an innocent man, who is also a public figure.
Assam Police has taken this case with utmost sincerity, South Assam DIG, Debraj Upadhyay traveled to Haialakandi and met the SP Manish Misrha to investigate the matter. So far, Police arrested the husband Sahid Ahmed from Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport Guwahati, while he was on his way to Mumbai. Sahid Ahmed is in Hailakandi Police custody and according to sources, Police was almost ready to put handcuffs on the elected member of legislative assembly Nizam Uddin Choudhury when this media statement from the lady added a major twist in the tale.
The housewife pleaded to take into account the circumstances under which she conspired against the MLA, “Whatever I did, it was to get my husband back,” is what she said. In her earlier statement on record to the Police, she said that she was raped by MLA Nizam Uddin in his room in circuit house and at her husband’s residence. She also mentioned that her husband was the one, who handed her over to the MLA.
Few questions arise here and the obvious one is that if she wanted to get her husband back in her life, why would she accuse him of trafficking. On the other hand, one who vehemently lied about a political figure earlier, should or should not be believed when she is accusing another. All this and many other questions are there in the whole of Hailakandi’s mind and hopefully, the Police will be able to reveal the full truth through their investigation. Meanwhile, it is wise for all of us not to speculate or draw conclusions. No one is guilty until proven and everyone is a suspect till the culprit is caught.
