Hailstorm jolts Barak Valley: Lighting kills one in Cachar, Breeze wreaks havoc in Karimganj 

It is that time of the year when dark clouds surround Barak Valley and storm brings in sudden shocks. Today evening the skies opened up and it was a hailstorm coupled with thunder and lightning. The storm was not an anticipated one and that is why many residents of the district got caught off-guard.

In Bagadahar, Borjurai area of Cachar district a young individual succumbed to lightning in the evening. As per available information, a young individual identified as Maqbul Haque was farming at his paddy field and all of a sudden it started thundering. Soon after that, Maqbool was hit by lightning and he succumbed on the spot.

Eyewitnesses said that the moment it stopped raining, locals gathered and took Maqbool to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The doctors there diagnosed him brought dead. The death of a young individual has left the locals shocked.

On the other hand, the strong breeze has wreaked havoc in Karimganj. Many houses lost its roof, the Bazaar India mall’s glass windows got shattered, trees in several areas were forced off its roots. The storm has disrupted electricity supply in the district which makes it more difficult for the people who will have to stay indoors due to the ongoing lockdown.
