“Hard work has no substitute”: Class XII topper Ashim Sarkar, who aspires be a teacher

A rejoicing moment for Barak Valley as the Class XII students performed exceedingly well in the examination conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. Matter of pride for Barak Valley, as many as four students made it to the merit list of top 10 students. Ashim Sarkar, student of Vivekananda Junior College scored 474 out of 500 to secure the top position in the state in Commerce stream.

Speaking to Barak Bulletin, Sarkar said he is grateful to his teachers and the institution, “I joined Vivekananda Junior College in 2017 and since then, the environment which is supportive and encouraging, helped me to perform to my potential. The teachers here always back you. In order to motivate us, the teachers used to tell us the story of our former students who had made it to the merit list,” the topper said.

Sarkar added, “I am a firm believer of the fact the God resides within human and thus I respect each and every human being. I think God’s blessings, my teacher’s hard work, my friends and family members’ support is the reason why I could perform this well in the examination and secure the top position.”

To the many students who would aspire to secure the top position in coming years, here is what Sarkar had to say to them, “To my next generation I would like to say that you will have to sacrifice everything for your studies. You will have to make yourself believe that you are here to do something big and then stay determined throughout the year. There is no substitute to practice and one must practice throughout the year.”

At the early stage of adulthood, it is very easy and natural to get indulged into a relationship of sort. Sarkar believes one must avoid this to prosper in academics, “Another aspect which is very important and often a deciding factor in determining the result is the personal life. My suggestion to the schoolgoers graduating to Class XI and XII, you must not get involved too much in your personal life instead should give preference to the academics to make a promising career,” said Sarkar.

He wants to do the same to young ones, what his teachers did to him – uplift. That is what his aim in life is, leapfrogging academic performances and shaping careers, “I want to do B.Com from Vivekananda College. The teachers in this college inspired me, they shaped my personality and gave me a status today. I too want to be a teacher and shape careers,” concluded the champion.
