HD Lalpekmawia issues show-cause notice to Karimganj DC; Tension prevails in Assam-Mizoram conflict
There is not a single dull moment in the Assam-Mizoram interstate border conflict. While in Cachar, the DFO was stopped and threatened by armed individuals deployed by Mizoram Government in Karimganj, the DC has been show-caused by District Programme Officer – MGNREGS of Mamit District, HD Lalpekmawia.
“It has come to the notice of the undersigned (HD Lalpekmawia) that at around 2:00 p.m on 9th October, 2020 , a group of Government officials from Assam arrived at the outskirt of Thinghlun Village, Mizoram accompanied by approximately 100 (one hundred) uniformed personnel — Police Department and Forest Department officials,” states the letter.
It added, “Eyewitnesses and subsequent media outlets from Assam have reported that the team was led by District Commissioner of Karimganj District and Divisional Forest Officer from Assam. It is also learnt that the officials headed by you destroyed several civilian properties such as farm hut and crops belonging to resident of Thinghlun village. Among the properties destroyed was a Citizen Information Board (CIB) which was erected under MGNREGA, a flagship programme under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.”
The program officer provides details of the CIB, “Name of Work Brick Soiling of Approach Road to Zaite. Village Thinghlun Year 2018-2019 Executing Agency Programme Officer ( MGNREGA) Zawinuam R.D Block.”
HD Lalpekmawia added Destruction of government property especially those which are constructed under Central Government Scheme is viewed seriously.
“Your act of doing so is viewed as unbecoming of a government servant and a serious case of misconduct under CCS (CCA) rules. You are therefore directed to clarify or show cause as to why an appropriate action should not be taken as per the Guidelines of MGNREGA on or before 31′ October, 2020. In addition, you are hereby directed to rebuild the said property you destroyed which belongs to Government of India immediately,” adds the letter.
