Head-on collision between night super bus and truck in NH 6 Digorkhal, 15 sustain injuries

A severe road accident occurred on National Highway 6 in the Digorkhal area of Katigorah early Thursday morning. The incident took place at around 5 AM when a night bus from Guwahati collided head-on with a speeding lorry in front of “Sharma Hotel” in Digorkhal.

The night bus, operated by Arhan Travels and en route to Silchar from Guwahati, was attempting to overtake an illegally parked vehicle when it lost control and crashed into the oncoming lorry. The lorry, bearing the number AS 25 BC 4737, was reportedly speeding towards Guwahati.

The collision resulted in significant damage to both vehicles. The drivers of the bus and the lorry, along with 13 passengers from the night bus, sustained serious injuries. The injured were promptly taken to Kalain Government Hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, the two drivers and four passengers were later transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care.

One passenger who sustained minor injuries said, “There were more than 25 passengers on the bus. I was in the front alongside the driver and the handyman. I was almost asleep but suddenly there was a crash and I hurt my face bumping into the dashboard. The driver’s side of the bus was severely impacted and he was badly injured. All the patients have been rushed to the hospital with the support and help of the locals”.

The incident has highlighted the dangers of high-speed driving and improper parking on major highways.
