Health camp organised in Central Jail; santitary napkins distrubuted among women inmates
A Health Camp and Distribution of Menstrual Hygiene Products for inmates of Central Jail, Silchar was organised by The Commoners’ Organisation, Assam.
The event was attended by, eminent personalities Taimur Raja Choudhury, Editor of Samayik Prasanga, renowned activist of the town Haran Dey and the Superintendent of Jail, Satyendra Baishya.
In his speech, Rohan Biswas, the President of the association mentioned, “Jail is not a place for punishment but for one’s reformation.” He added, “Health is a fundamental right of everyone and hence we have decided to work for the ill-fated inmates of Central Jail Cachar.”
In the camp, a team of doctor examined the women, children and elderlies of the jail and medicines were distributed to them by the organisation. The team of doctors included Dr.Rohan Biswas, Dr.Orko Paul, Dr.Arpita Deb and Dr.Supritam Das.
The association also decided to provide sanitary napkins for all the female inmates of jail for one year. The primary beneficiaries of the camp were mainly the women, children and senior citizens of Central Jail, Silchar and people kept at the detention centre due to their doubted nationality.
The guests present in the camp were felicitated by Purvi Nath, a member of the organisation.
A member, in their vote of thanks, mentioned that the work wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of General Secretary Sourav Sutradhar, Vice President Sreeparna Purkayastha, Bishal Nath, Amit Chanda, Shantanu Narayan Deb, Prosenjit Bhowmick, Ratnam Deb Kanungo.
