Heavy rainfall in Assam: CM Sonowal's flight delays, cancels Hailakandi, Karimganj trip

Incessant rainfall throughout Assam and the entire northeast has disrupted life in the region. Assam chief minister’s aircraft could not take off earlier today due to poor weather conditions. The CM was scheduled to reach Kumbirgram at 11:15 AM to kickstart his one-day Barak Valley tour. However, it stands delayed and as per Cachar district administration officials, his aircraft will attempt another take off from Borjhar air station at around 12:00 PM.

 

The official informed that due to the delay, CM will cancel his visit to Hailakandi and Karimganj. He will reach Silchar and meet the officials from all the districts before taking off for Borjhar.

 

As per the earlier schedule, CM was supposed to start his visit with a Karimganj tour and then Hailakandi at around 2:00 PM. Eight people from Hailakandi lost their couple of days back due to the landslides.

 

Though he is not visiting Karimganj and Haialakndi he is expected to meet the officials in Silchar itself. A couple of days back, landslides in all three districts of Barak Valley claimed 21 lives. Chief minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal visiting to take stock of the situation.
