Here are big developments for Cachar, highlights from the Cabinet meeting

Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday held the weekly Assam Cabinet in the only Hill Station of Assam, Haflong. The State Government’s Meeting was held, abiding by the COVID restrictions. In a Press Conference held after the Cabinet Meeting on 19th January afternoon in Dima Hasao District, announced the minutes of the Cabinet Meeting.

The meeting started at 2:30 in the afternoon at the Circuit House of Dima Hasao District. Various decisions were taken in the said conference. One of the major takeaways from the meeting is that there won’t be any lockdown in Assam. The same decision has also been seconded by the Health Minister of Assam, Keshab Mahanta. Another major takeaway is that the next Cabinet Meeting will be held in Silchar in the month of March.

Addressing the media the CM said, “We took several key decisions regarding bringing solutions to the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute, Amendment to Medical Service Rules, Autonomous Council Election Rules, Wildlife preservation in Barak Valley, etc.” The key decisions of the Assam Cabinet Meeting are:

Amending Medical Service Rules-

▶ Approval to Assam Medical Education Service (Amendment) Rules, 2022 to regulate the promotion of doctors working as faculty under Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) Scheme

Notified by the Health Department, DACPS will provide scope for timely promotion and financial upgrade without linkage to vacancies and on fulfilment of fixed criteria after 3 years, 7 years & 10 years of service

Wildlife Preservation in Barak Valley-

▶ Approval to setting up of Cachar Wildlife Safari cum Zoo at Dholai, Cachar at a cost of ₹214.54 crore

Border Row: Inching Towards Solution-

▶ Based on extensive field surveys and consultations with the stakeholders, the Cabinet today approved the principles for solving 6 out of 12 outstanding border disputes with Meghalaya.

Extending Avenues of Higher Education-

▶Introduction Commerce stream in:
* Sualkuchi Budram Madhab Satradhikar College

* Morigaon College

▶Introduction Science stream in:
* Moridhal College, Dhemaji

* Salbari College, Baksa
* Tezpur College
* MC College, Cachar 

* Bhawanipur Anchalik College

* Basugaon College

Amendment to Council Election Rules

▶Approval Autonomous Council Council Autonomous Council (Election) Rules, Maatak Autonomous Council (Election) Rules, Bodo Kachari Weflare Autonomous Council (Election) Rules and Kamatapur Autonomous Council (Election) Rules, 2022.

In Focus: Dima Hasao

▶Approved 15 crore for infrastructural development of Haflong Stadium, which will create more opportunities for budding sportsmen in Dima Hasao district 

▶110 crores for Haflong Water Supply Scheme to alleviate problems of water supply in the region.

▶ Provision of Salaries of Grade 1 and Grade II employees of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council under normal sector by State Government in order to enable the Council to properly utilise its budget for developmental work

▶ ₹50 crores for tourism infrastructure in Umrangso, Panimur and Haflong to be jointly developed by Assam Tourism Development Corporation and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council

Before the conference, the Chief Minister has instructed not to ‘over-prepare’ the lunch. He has asked the organizers to prepare only one type of meat, fish, vegetables, salad, and only one type of sweet as dessert. 

The Chief Minister who is also the Chief of NEDA, reached the Hill district at 10:40 in the morning. Before the Cabinet Meeting, he inaugurated several government projects and programs. Top ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party were present during the Meeting. 

After the meeting, the CM took to the microblogging website Twitter and wrote “Enjoying the pristine beauty of Barail Hills along with my cabinet colleagues & other leaders before the start of cabinet meeting at Haflong today.

Suggested some beautification measures to make the Circuit House campus more appealing & convenient for tourists & visitors.”
