Heroin, cash seized in Barak Valley; brothers arrested

Two drug-peddlers were arrested with drugs at Nutan Ramnagar (Part-V) under the jurisdiction of Sonai police station in Cachar district on Thursday.

The arrested peddlers were identified as Makhon Ahmed Choudhury and Lakhon Ahmed Choudhury, sons of Lilam uddin Choudhury.

Sources said police carried out an operation on the basis of specific information and nabbed the duo at Natun Ramnagar, around 28km from Silchar. Two packets of suspected heroin, 32 plastic containers filled with suspected drugs along with Rs. 1,90,000 in cash were seized.

This is reportedly the third drug-related operation in Cachar district in the past one week. On Tuesday, three drug peddlers — Holkholet Kipgen, Thangjangam Guite and Khupthang Francis were apprehended from a hotel in Silchar. The arrested peddlers hail from Churchandpur in Manipur. Around 40 grams of drugs were recovered from them.

On Sunday, two persons, including a woman, were arrested with drugs from a residence at Gangpar, Madhurbond in Silchar. The arrested persons were Ajim Uddin Laskar (38), and his sister Hasna Begum (36). Fourty six small plastic containers filled with drugs were found from the house.
