Himanta mastermind behind Assam-Mizoram land dispute, claims Kamalakhya
Himanta is the main mastermind behind the Assam-Mizoram land dispute and it was under his instruction that the whole affray was carried out, feels North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha. While the Health Minister and Karimganj MLA are making headlines since the past few days for their accusations and counters against each other, this comes as a new surprise.
On Tuesday evening, Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta visited the deceased Intajul Ali’s house at French Nagar located near the Assam-Mizoram border. Before their arrival, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and a few other Congress leaders went to the spot.
During media briefing, Kamalakhya made an astonishing claim regarding the brawl. Speaking to reporters he told “Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma is in the charge of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). Assam and Mizoram are under this alliance only. BJP is the ruling party in Assam and an ally in Mizoram but still there’s no end to this land dispute and instead it’s intensifying with the passage of time so much that an Assam resident had to lose his life while the Health Minister not as much spares a word for him. This makes it clear that he’s the one trying to elongate the dispute from behind the curtains.”
The North Karimganj MLA demanded a CBI or NIA level probe on Intajul Ali’s death and a compensation of rupees one crore for his family. He said “Mizo forces kidnapped and killed French Nagar resident Intajul Ali Laskar near Assam-Mizoram Border. State Government is trying to avoid the blame by giving five lakhs to his family. First of all, a CBI or NIA level probe should be conducted. There’s a high probability of a big conspiracy involved behind it. An unbiased Central Government investigation might reveal the mastermind behind it. Intajul Ali Laskar was the sole earning member of his family. His family should be compensated with an amount atleast fifty lakhs to one crore.”
BJP led state government has completely failed to resolve state level boundary disputes, alleged the MLA. He said “Not only Mizoram, Assam is also having ongoing land disputes with Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh as well. All these states are very small but still they snatch away our land while the Assam government remains a mute spectator to it. Assam residents are harrased in other north eastern states, rules are made against them while our government does nothing. I feel these disputes are a political vendetta. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma is the mastermind behind them.”
On questioning why opposition stays silent with the government’s faulty approach, Kamalakhya replied “I have come here to speak on Assam-Mizoram border dispute. We as an opposition can appeal to the government for taking appropriate actions. But we can’t enter Mizoram and fight with them. The army is there for such works and the government can use them if they want.”
Congress leaders left the spot before Chief Secretary’s arrival. A few local people urged them not to politicise the issue at a fragile moment like this while a few others shouted “Go Back” slogan to them.
