Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal, both have the qualites of CM; MP Rajdeep Roy upbeat after Exit Polls

In the next 48 hours, it is probably going to be clear as to which alliance is going to form the government in Assam. Earlier, various exit polls had suggested that the BJP-led alliance is ahead in the state and is more likely to form the government. On Friday, Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy called a press conference at the District BJP office and expressed his views regarding the exit polls. He said, “Exit polls mean chances, it’s not the final result. Different agencies have reviewed in their own ways, some have given less to BJP, some have given more seats. But my guess is that the BJP-led alliance in the state will win 84 to 86 seats and will form the government with a clear majority.”

In the exit polls of the 15 constituency seats of the Barak Valley, some agencies have suggested very bizarre results. Some of them do not even know the total number of seats in Barak valley but are already claiming which party is winning by what margin. Remarking on the performance of their alliance in the Barak Valley, Rajdeep Roy said, “In the 15 seats of the Barak Valley, the BJP is going to make history this time. In the Cachar district, the BJP is going to win all the seven seats. In 1991, the party won 9 seats in Barak Valley, this time we will go beyond this number to double-digit (at least ten). But keeping in mind the current grave situation, we have decided that there will be no victory celebration after the result, no one will play with abir, no crackers will be burst or no public gathering will be held.”

Apart from being the MP from Silchar, Rajdeep Roy is also the acting General Secretary of the BJP’s Assam Pradesh Committee. Regarding who the Assam Pradesh Committee is rooting for the CM candidate this year, he said, “Sarbananda Sonowal joined the BJP back in 2011, after which the party has moved forward under his leadership and finally we were able to oust the Congress and come to power in the 2016 elections. Similarly, Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the BJP in 2015 and has further contributed equally to the party’s success in every subsequent election. This year we will break all past records and come to power in the new government. A new and tough CM face will lead the team forward. I think Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma are both equally qualified to be the Chief Minister. Besides, the two have the same position in terms of rights, because to bring the party to where the BJP is standing today, both of them have made equal contribution. As a result, I would be equally happy if either of the two became the chief minister. But the final decision will be made by the central leadership and we will do everything according to their decision.”

Besides, Rajdeep Roy lambasted the Congress-led grand alliance, saying, “Last year when the whole country was going through a difficult situation, the Congress leaders were sitting comfortably at home and in the process, gradually lost the faith of the people. Suddenly before the election, they entered the political field controversially by allying with a communal party like the AIUDF. Our people are not so stupid that they will bring a party like them into power. “
