The first Assam Youth Olympics 2022 organised by Assam Olympic Association (AOA) is starting at midnight. The event will continue till July 27. State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the Youth Olympics at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. Former chief minister and president of Assam Olympic Association Sarbananda Sonowal will be present as well.

Youth Olympics are going to be held in Assam for the first time. A total of 35 teams are participating in this event. Around 4500 athletes are expected to participate in the games. 800 volunteers and recruits have been engaged to make the games run smoothly.

Silchar is sending a team of 60 for the games. Yoga, fencing, hockey, table tennis etc will be there in the competition. Hockey is the most hyped up team from Silchar for the season. Silchar’s yoga and fencing teams will be in the Youth Olympics as well.

The mentioned two teams will travel on Thursday, while the rest of the teams will leave for Guwahati by rail on July 24 together. Nanddulal Roy will be Silchar’s chief de mission at the Youth Olympics. Subir Dey will be his deputy.

DSA secretary Vijendra Prasad Singh is very optimistic about Silchar’s performance in Youth Olympics. He also thanked the Assam Olympic Organization for organizing such an event. Guwahati is entering the Youth Olympics with the biggest team of around 500 members. Dima Hasao has one of the smallest head counts, with 6 teams only.

The event will be organised just like the legendary Olympics. There will be a Olympic podium where winners will be handed their medals. A total of 32 events will be held, encompassing 8 stadiums all over Guwahati.

However, people are raising their concerns about the event already. People are emphasising that the former players of the state are not being cared for. The recent heatwaves in the state are also a matter of concern for the organisers.
