Holi celebrations: Multiple accidents in Silchar due to reckless driving, many critical

Flouting traffic rules have become an integral part of any celebration in Silchar. Even when the top politicians organise a bike rally they themselves flout traffic rules and then promote it on social media. Whereas, they should lead by example.

However, today is Holi and most of the city has submerged into celebrating the festival of colours. Some even mixed it with intoxication and that has led to a significant spike in the number of road accidents. A motorcycle met with an accident near Kathal road in Silchar and all three on the vehicle are in critical condition. Locals said that the incident took place at around 3:00 pm and all of them have been rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Another similar accident took place near Rongpur High School. Two motorcycles met with a head-on collision. Four young boys got critically injured in the accident. The locals said, both the motorcycles were at high speed and collided with the other while trying to overtake another vehicle. “Both the motorcycles had two young boys sitting on them. One boy’s condition is serious and he is battling for life,” informed a local resident.

Rahul Rabidas of Karatigram and Sanju Rabidas of Kashipur were in one motorcycle. In another one, Bireshwar Rou and Jhontu Das were riding. The general public called for an ambulance and rushed them to Silchar Medical College and Hospital at around 2:00 pm.

A newly bought Tata Altroz Car also met with an accident today. Near Rongpur Police Outpost, the Altroz car in high-speed collided with the divider. There were two male individuals on the car and both got injured.

According to the local police, the public spotted the accident and informed them. The car was travelling from Udharbond towards Silchar. The Police is yet to identify their address. They have been rushed in an ambulance to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

While these are major accidents within Silchar, a doctor deployed in Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s causality department said the rush of accidental cases is multiple times higher than what it is normally.
