A house was damaged in a landslide at Dholcherra village in Jaroiltala gaon panchayat under Borkhola constituency in Cachar district on Saturday.
According to sources, the incident took place around 8am on Saturday morning when a big portion of a hillock collapsed, razing a wall of the house of Nishi Kanta Dutta at Dholcherra village, around 32km from Silchar.
Many valuable items inside the house were damaged, while family members somehow survived the mishap, sources said.
The house was damaged twice in the past two weeks because of landslides on July 23 and August 3. The total amount of loss was around Rs. 5 lakh.
The inside portion of the house has been engulfed by mud and soil althroughout because of today’s landslip, resulting in immense trouble for the family members.
The incident has apparently triggered panic among local residents, who have sought the intervention of Borkhola MLA Kishore Nath and Cachar deputy commissioner Laya Madduri into the matter.
