HS Student of Radha Madab College Drowns in Madhura River: Efforts to find his body continues
In a tragic incident, Debasis Paul, an 18-year-old student from Radha Madhav College, drowned in the waters of the Madura River’s Doya Disa waterfall on Sunday. Despite the valiant efforts of his friends to save him, Debasis was swept away by the strong currents, leaving his family and friends in shock and despair.
The incident occurred around noon when Debasis, along with his friends, decided to spend their Sunday at the picturesque Doya Disa waterfall. While enjoying a swim, Debasis slipped and was caught in a whirlpool created by the powerful currents where the waterfall merges with the Madura River. His friends, witnessing the sudden turn of events, attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
Debasis Paul, an HS second-year Arts student at Radha Madhab College in Silchar, came to the waterfall to enjoy a holiday with his friends. At approximately 12 PM, while bathing in the waterfall, he lost his footing and was pulled into a whirlpool. Despite immediate attempts by his friends to save him, Debasis was submerged by the forceful waves. His friends quickly alerted the authorities by contacting the Udharband Police Station.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Officer-in-Charge of Udharband Police Station, Haukam Changsang, arrived at the scene with his team. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was also notified and began a thorough search operation. Despite continuous efforts from this morning, Debasis’s body has yet to be found.
Debasis Paul was the son of Rinku Paul and lived with his family in Kathal Bagan. his father serves in the 6th AP Battalion. His parents rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and were devastated by the loss of their son. The police investigation is ongoing, and search efforts continue.
What was intended to be a fun outing with friends turned into a dire tragedy. As of now, the remains of Debasis Paul have not been recovered, leaving his family and friends in anguish as they await closure.
