Huge consignment of subsidised fertiliser hidden in Jungle: Cachar Police busts secret hideout
The Cachar Police has once again seized a huge consignment of urea fertiliser from inside the dense forest under New Tiping Punjee under Borkhola Constituency. On Thursday, February 10, these successful raids were carried out by the police. Two smugglers involved in the possession of the smuggled consignment were also arrested by the Borkhola Police. These smugglers have hidden almost 1500 bags of urea fertilizer in different locations in the area and even inside the dense forest of Tiping Punjee. Based on a secret Intel the Police has seized this huge consignment.
The two arrested with the fertilizer smuggling are Mortaz Ali and Amar Ahmed. They were arrested by the police on Thursday based on a trusted input received. The Police had first received the input about illicit urea in New Tiping Punjee and after search operations with permission from SP Cachar, they found another huge consignment inside the forest of the Tipingcherra area. The Borkhola Police Station’s OC while speaking to the media said, “When we received the Intel we rushed to the spot with my men and women constable as well. After reaching there we found a man named Panchish Khasia who was a landowner there. He rented out his land for a tea stall to Mortaz Ahmad, a 25-year-old from Bihara Part III, in Katigorah. The owner was not aware of this fertilizer smuggling and later informed us about it. We went to that site and opened the tea stall to find it filled with bags of urea fertilizer”.
What was even surprising was that Mortaz had managed to hide the remaining bags of urea inside the forest as the space in the tea stall was falling short. The Assam Police OC further added, “Almost 100 metres away from the stall inside the forest behind his stall, we recovered another huge consignment of urea bags. Those bags were hidden under a tarpaulin in a low lying area”. These bags under tarpaulin were disguised with banana leaves to create an illusion and save it from the suspicion of people.
The Borkhola Police Station’s officers further kept on searching for more such hidden fertilizer and asked the “Gaon Bura”, the headman of the village to cooperate with the Police. The OC has further confirmed the arrest of Mortaz Ahmed a resident of the Katigorah constituency along with Amar Ahmed, who was involved with this illegal procurement.
