"I have resigned," Govt. Girls Silchar's Bibhas Chakraborty, questions intention of allegation amidst Gunotsav

Bibhas Chakraborty, the Principal in-charge of Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Silchar, has addressed recent complaints made against him by student Afsana Begam Sadiyal. In a letter addressed to various authorities including the Education Minister of Assam and the District Commissioner of Cachar, Sadiyal alleged misconduct and financial impropriety on Chakraborty’s part and called for an investigation into his credentials for the role.

Chakraborty clarified that he holds the position of Principal Incharge, not Regular Principal, and asserted that specific qualifications are not required for his role. He pointed out that many schools in Silchar have principals without B.Ed. degrees. Regarding the alleged financial irregularities, he stated they occurred during the tenure of the previous principal, not his own.

He recounted how the school faced serious challenges under the previous principal’s leadership, leading to intervention from the District Administration and a period during which the school was temporarily closed. Chakraborty highlighted efforts made by students, including Sadiyal, to reinstate the previous principal due to dissatisfaction with the situation.

Chakraborty expressed confusion over Sadiyal’s motivations, noting that she had previously lodged complaints against the previous principal and is now doing the same against him. He mentioned complaints of misconduct against the previous principal but did not speculate on Sadiyal’s intentions.

He questioned Sadiyal’s actions during Gunotsav, an education assessment program, suggesting that her focus on complaints instead of her exams raises suspicion. Despite his resignation a few months prior, Chakraborty emphasized that he diligently fulfilled his duties and oversaw significant improvements in the school’s condition during his tenure, crediting the efforts of staff and students.

Chakraborty suggested that there may be individuals influencing Sadiyal’s complaints, potentially with ambitions to become principal themselves. He asserted his lack of objection to such a scenario and deemed the complaints unnecessary.

In conclusion, Chakraborty offered to resign from the post of Principal in charge and called for its immediate removal. He stated that he was asked to be the in-charge and he has done his part well; now, he wishes to be removed from this post, and for that, he had already submitted his resignation through the proper channel a few months ago.
