Illegal drugs on the rise: Police confiscates heroin, arrests one in Hailakandi

Peace’ in the island of peace Barak Valley, is under serious threat. The valley is emerging as a drug cartel, a safe haven for peddlers and smugglers. If the news of Yaba drug dealers planning to assassinate the Agartala CM Biplob Deb took every one by shock in the region, last night’s Police raid in Hailakandi is no relief for the people of Barak Valley.

In Hailakandi’s Katlicherra area, Police conducted a search operation last evening on the basis of a secret tip off. South Hailakandi’s Katlicherra outposts’ in-charge Bidhan Das led the operation and successfully managed to confiscate heroin and arrest one. As per police sources, the team had set a trap in Katlicherra grant area and as planned managed to trap the culprit identified as Rabijul Islam Laskar. He is a resident of South Hailakandi’s Killa Barak area.
The police also nabbed five gram heroin from Rajibul. As per market estimate, heroin is sold at the rate of Rs 80 lakh per kilogram. Police is interrogating Rajibul and trying to bust the entire racket involved in smuggling narcotics in the region. It is worth mentioning here that, this is not the first time Police nabbed narcotics in Barak Valley in recent times. In fact, drugs has been in the news for quite some time. Sometimes some one is going to jail while in other occasions people are headed to emergency due to overdose.
