"India believes in Vasudeva Kutumbakam" DC Keerthi Jalli appeals for peace; warns against spreading rumour on social media
“Whatever happened in Bangladesh is condemnable. All of us unequivocally condemn the attack on temples and idols. However, there is no point in causing tension among ourselves in India for whatever is happening in Bangladesh.” Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli called for an emergency meeting at her office after communal tension broke between two communities in the Katigorah area.
It was an all-party, all community meeting attended by representatives from all spheres. Tomorrow, VHP will carry out a huge rally that will march through the heart of the town. The rally has been supported by many other organisations. The members of the VHP will hand over a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India through the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The representative of VHP assured the deputy commissioner that they will maintain peace and tranquillity and won’t raise slogans that are against any particular community. The VHP representative urged people from other communities to join the rally and as a mark of protest against the violence against Hindus that has been unleashed in Bangladesh.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Muslim Community too. Misbahul Islam Laskar – MLA of Borkhola, Khalil Uddin Mazumdar – MLA of Katigorah, Kaushik Rai – MLA of Lakhipur, Dipayan Chakraborty – MLA of Silchar attended the meeting.
A representative of the Muslim community said that the incident in Bangladesh could be a conspiracy. “A photograph has gone viral on Social Media that shows a holy Quran kept on the feet of an idol. No Hindu living in Bangladesh would dare to do something like this. It might have been done to perpetuate tension and we should not fall prey to this propaganda. We condemn the incident as they unfolded in Bangladesh,” he said.
DC Jalli also invited people from all communities to join hands in submitting the memorandum to the Prime Minister of India. She appealed for peace saying, “India is guided by the Mantra of Vasudeva Kutumbakam and we should not resort to communal violence while protesting against the chain of events in a neighbouring country.”
DC Jalli also added that social media is being used to add fuel to the fire. “The situation in Bangladesh is being handled by the Prime Minister of the country. We will keep a close watch on social media and if we find any posts made with the attempt to spread communal violence or something that can breach peace and tranquillity, we will take strict action as per law.” She warned, “It is my request to everyone, do not risk your future in the heat of the moment by posting something unnecessarily provocative and unlawful.”
