Barak Valley’s two premier clubs India Club and Maizdihi Sports Club have been eliminated in the final round of the 3rd edition of the Assam Premier Club Championship. Silchar champion India Club lost to Tezpur’s Super Touch Club at the Jalan Outdoor Stadium in Dibrugarh on Tuesday by a huge margin of 102 runs. However, Barpeta club Tiranga has already qualified for the semi-finals by winning two matches in a row in the three-team group. So this match was practically meant for the sake of schedule. But, like the first match, the champions of Silchar were disappointing in the second match as well.
On the other hand, Karimganj champion Maizdihi had won the second match of the group in Tinsukia but it was of no benefit. Southern Zone champion Maizdihi beat Radial Club by 5 wickets. However, the Cricket Club of Dibrugarh had already secured a last-four berth from this group. So even after winning the second match, Maizdihi had to bid farewell from the final round of the championship.
After winning the toss in Dibrugarh, India Club decided to field first. Mainly due to the energetic performance of the bowlers, India Club managed to halt Super Touch Club at the ordinary total of 196 runs. At one time, Tezpur’s Super Touch club had lost 5 wickets for 67 runs only. However, due to the resistance shown by the lower order batsmen, they could reach a respectable total. Sadek Imran Choudhury took three wickets. Pervez Musharraf and Chandradip Das also took two each.
While chasing, India Club got all out at 94 runs only. Pervez Musharraf could not come down to bat due to injury. Notable runs were scored by Debashish Saikia (36) and Arman Khan (15). Gobindo Rajbongshi and Rehan Jamil Mazumder along with Prashanta Kumar flopped. Ravi Chhetri of Super Touch club scalped four wickets for his team’s winning cause.
