India Club of Silchar Qualifies for Premier Cup Zonal Final; Will Fight Maizdihi in the Final on Saturday
India Club has made it to the final of Assam Cricket Association’s (ACA) Premier Club Championship Zonal tournament. On Thursday, Silchar champion India Club beat Everest Club, who are Lakhipur champions. This time in the zonal final, India Club will play against Maizdihi Club of Karimganj, the champion of Group B of Southern Zone. It is noteworthy that both the India Club and Maizdihi club have got the clearance for the zonal final round, hence they have also got the clearance for the final round.
Still, Saturday’s match is important enough. Because the team that wins that day will get 1.5 lakh rupees as the zonal champion. And the losing side will get one lakh rupees as the runner-up.
Everest Club decided to bat first after winning the toss at the Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar. But due to the failure of the batsmen, they were all out for mere 62 runs in 23.4 overs. Whereas at one point in time, their score was 58 for 4. From there, the Lakhipur team club Everest collapsed in 4 runs.
Nasir Ahmed Khan scored 13 and Buddha Das scored 15 runs, the only significant contributions in their innings. India club’s two spinners Pervez Musharraf and Rudrajit Deka took three wickets each. Sadiq Imran Chowdhury poached two.
The chase was not so difficult for India Club. However, they lost five wickets on their way to victory after being slightly negligent at the start. Finally, the champions of Silchar reached the target in 15.2 overs. Debashish Saikia remained unbeaten on 29 runs while Pervez Musharraf scored 11. Nihar Paul of Everest scalped 4 wickets.
