India prepared for any challenges from Pakistan: V.K. Singh

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, V.K Singh, union minister and former army chief addressed the media in Silchar as part of BJP campaign. The minister spoke about the recently held IAF attack and shared that India is fully prepared to tackle any challenges if posed by Pakistan in retaliation to the air strikes.

He also took the opportunity to talk about NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill in the state. Also present on the occasion was Assam BJP spokesperson Rajdeep Roy and Cachar district BJP president Kaushik Roy.

As readers would know the IAF (Indian Air Force) attack came after more than 40 CRPF jawans were killed and many injured in an attack at Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14.

The attack, as per reports, was conducted by a suicide bomber of the Jaish-e-Mohammad. He slammed an explosive-laden car on the CRPF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway at Pulwama. The IAF destroyed terrorist camps of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Balakot, Muzzafarabad and Chakothi in the wee hours on Tuesday (February 26).

At the press conference, Singh shared with the reporters that India had told Pakistan to take action against the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad. After it failed to do so, the decision of carrying out the attack on the terror camps was taken.

When a reporter asked if India is ready if Pakistan hurls any challenge or launches an attack, Singh said “India is fully prepared for any challenges. If a country goes ahead with the decision of conducting an attack, it gets ready beforehand for all sorts of challenges that may arrive in the aftermath of that incident.”

Further, the minister touched upon the burning issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC). He said the NRC update process is being done under the supervision of the Supreme Court and genuine citizens need not worry about this. “The apex court is monitoring the exercise and each and every aspect related to the process will be taken care of,” he said.

As for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Singh shared that the bill was introduced with a good intention. “However it eventually led to unrest in the region because of misreading and fears by different sections of people of the region.” He added that some amount of politics, too, was responsible for the escalation of turmoil and fear in the region.
