Insects wreaking havoc in Cachar; Domesticated animals dying, scientist, doctor rush to the spot
A group of insects that the locals are unable to identify is wreaking havoc in Cachar district’s Katigorah area. Reports are coming in from the Haritikor area that as many as three domisticated goats have succumbed after being bitten by insects. Residents are complaining that the locals are also being bitten by the insects.
But what are these insects? Dr. Manoranjan Sarkar from the veterinary department said that a scientist from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a team from district veterinary department and another one from district agriculture department have rushed to the sport to inspect the situation.
Dr. Manoranjan Sarkar, veterinary officer of Silchar added that by tomorrow, the departments will have a clear idea as to what the insect is. “At this stage, it won’t be correct to attribute the deaths of goats to the insects. There are other seasonal diseases that are infecting the goats and so they are dying all around and not just in Haritikor,” said Sarkar.
He added, “Our assumption is that these insects are wild bees. However, it is just an assumption. Since the scientist is inspecting the spot, by tomorrow, we will be clear as to what the insect is and why are they biting the animals in that vicinity.”
