Installation of electric poles going on in full swing at Silchar railway station, installation of cross girder nearing completion

People’s dream of riding electric trains in three districts of Barak valley including Silchar took another step forward as the installation of cross girders alongwith electric poles on the railway line is nearing completion. Already girder has been installed right at the entrance of Silchar railway station. To explain in details, the cross girder is sitting on the head of the electrical poles encompassing gate number one of the railways. The work of installing electric poles on both sides of the railway line is almost finished. However, the work can still be said to be at the grassroot level in the places adjacent to the station including inside Silchar station. The expected speed in the work here is not visible. Of course, there are reasons behind this.

Laying of high voltage transmission lines including earthing has already been completed by digging up about two feet into the ground. Bansal, General Manager of North East Frontier Railways, did a ground inspection of the work on January 20. He also inaugurated some new buildings including park.

In fact, the higher authorities of the railways are keeping their eyes focused on the progress of this work along the Silchar-Lumding rail route. The progress of the work has to be sent to officials in Delhi and head office of Railways after one day gap. So even if they want to, the contractors cannot delay the work progress. In this way, the possibility of fulfilling the dreams of the people of Barak Valley has finally started to reach fruition.

Work is going on in the hill section too. Electric poles have started to rise up the in the hills. However, despite many efforts, the work could not be accelerated. Monsoon season is coming and efforts are being made to advance the hill work as much as possible before the season starts. Because, during the rains, one has to take a lot of risk while doing hill work. There are many kinds of problems. However, a source of Silchar Railways told that even though the work is currently going on at a fast pace, it may take a long time for the electric train or engine to reach Silchar station. Because, in several places of the hill, the electrification work could not be done. As a result, the railway authorities are thinking of Chandranathpur-Lanka alternative route. But its work can also be said to be in initial phase.
