IPL betting bust: Cachar Police arrests four from Silchar

Domestic T-20 cricket extravaganza Indian Premier League, which critics recognise as great Indian Tamasha is gradually becoming a paradise for gamblers. Every year all over the country Police forces bust a lot of people for illegal betting. The phenomenon has reached Silchar too. Today Cachar Police in after running a search operation arrested four individuals for being involved in illegal gambling.

“The operation is still on, the four we have arrested are the mid-level miscreants, there are people over them and then there are people, who put bets through them. We are after both the categories, the leaders as well as the gamblers,” said SP Cachar, Rakesh Roushan.

The four miscreants arrested by Police today are identified as Sandeep Biswas (33), Alok Aditya (32), Suman Sinha (33), and Pritam Das (34). All of them are residents of Malugram Ghoniala Mokam road and its adjacent areas. “Sandeep Biswas is the leader of the group, but he is not the main mastermind,” said Roushan. He also informed the media that the group used a software on their mobile phones to calculate odd and keep a tally of who is betting how much on which team. Later, they used to transfer all the data to their laptops.

The Police has also seized one television set, one laptop, 12 mobile phones, a ledger book, huge quantity of Teer-ending (a form of gambling) tickets. “The interrogation is on, I would just like to say it is just the beginning of the operation, we won’t spare a single individual involved in this illegal activities,” Roushan added.
