IPS Sanjib Kalra reaches Silchar; says “As Police Observer I will make myself available to the public”
Police observer of Silchar and Karimganj MP constituencies Sanjib Kalra has reached Silchar from Punjab. The IPS from 1989 batch has been trusted with the two constituencies spread across three districts.
After reaching Silchar, Kalra spoke to the Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta and other senior officials of the district administration. Following that he addressed the media and said he will make himself available to the public. In case any individual has a complaint which needs Police attention, he or she can dial 8399948720. “This is my local number. Election commission wanted me to disclose this number for the benefit of the general public. Anyone with issues can call me on this number and we will do our best to solve it following the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India,” he asserts.
Explaining the role of a Police Observer during elections, Kalra said, the primary role is to ensure proper deployment of Police personnel in each and every booth. “The election commission after consulting the district administration identified certain polling stations as sensitive or critical. We will ensure we deploy sufficient Police officials to ensure safe polling on those stations as well as on each and every polling booths,” he says.
Tomorrow Kalra will travel to Karimganj and meet the administration there to discuss the strategies.
