Istiak Rasool Mazumdar's last rites to be conducted in Silchar; Body will be transferred via road
After the sad demise of 33-year-old Istiak Rasool Mazumdar was announced yesterday, speculations about his last rites were rife. Son of doctor Abed Rasool Mazumdar, Istiak was airlifted from Silchar and transferred to Kolkata for better treatment. A green corridor was arranged by the Cachar administration for free passage of the ambulance that was transferring him from Meherpur to Airport.
After testing positive for COVID19 recently, Istiak’s health-condition deteriorated. That is why the family decided to shift him to Kolkata. He was declared dead after he landed on Kolkata. Last night the body was kept at the morgue of AMRI hospitals.
COVID protocols of West Bengal is such that it prohibited transfer of the body back to Silchar. The family reached out to the administration of both Cachar and Kolkata. “DC Cachar issued an NOC, based on that we procured an NOC from administration in Kolkata. We have got immense help and cooperation from both the governments, deputy speaker of Assam Aminul Haque Laskar and many other officers,” said Dr. Munim Rasool Mazumdar, uncle of Istiak.
He informed that the body has been packed following all COVID protocols and the ambulance will drive it home non-stop. “It will take about 24 hours for the body to reach our home in Silchar. Many of us who have come here in Kolkata will return by airways. The ambulance will drive non-stop and since most of us are senior citizens, it won’t be possible for us to travel via road,” added Dr. Munim.
ADC Cachar Anis Rasool Mazumdar and other family members reached Kolkata today morning from Silchar. The entire family is in shock at the sudden demise of the 33-year-old boy.
