It's official! Sushmita Dev joins Trinamool Congress; "Khela Hobe," says former Mahila Congress president

After tendering her resignation as a primary member of the All India National Congress and the responsibilities of the National President of Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev travelled straight to Kolkata. Speculations were rife that former Union Minister and legendary congressman in the Northeast, Sontosh Mohan Dev’s daughter will join Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

It has turned true. Sushmita Dev, along with the chief national spokesperson as well as the leader of the Trinamool Congress parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien went to Abishek Banerjee’s office in Camac Street. The meeting continued for an hour and a half. As per sources, various roles and responsibilities were discussed in the meeting following which, Dev and Banerjee posed for a photograph.

She will now meet the chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee and a formal announcement is expected later in the day. It is speculated that Dev will become a Rajya Sabha MP. Also, she might get the responsibility of the party’s expansion to Tripura. “Will give it all I have got,” reacted Sushmita Dev while thanking Mamata Banerjee. “Khela Hobe” she added.

Meanwhile, Congress veteran, Kapil Sibal tool a subtle jibe at the Gandhi family as she wrote, “Sushmita Dev resigns from the primary membership of our Party. While young leaders leave we ‘oldies’ are blamed for our efforts to strengthen it. The Party moves on with: Eyes Wide Shut”

Former national spokesperson of Congress, Sanjay Jha added, “Sushmita Dev has been an amazing fighter for the Congress. Dedicated, gutsy and very hard working. A terrible loss indeed. And a big gain for the TMC. Seriously, what are we doing? And a kind request to Congress Spokespersons, please do not attack her. Kindly show grace.”
