Joint Operation of Cachar Police and 29 Assam Rifles: Arm dealer associated with a terror group nabbed

In a strategic joint operation, the Cachar Police’s Jirighat Police, and the 29 Assam Rifles apprehended a suspect allegedly involved in arms trafficking and linked to the United Tribal Liberation Army, Manipur (S.K Thadow), a notorious terrorist organization. The arrest occurred on November 24, 2023, following a tip-off received by Hav. Rewa Basumatary of the 29 Assam Rifles camped at Jaliura under Jirighat P.S.

The operation was initiated based on reliable information indicating that an individual was seen with arms in the Lakhinagar area under Jirighat P.S. O/C Jirighat P.S swiftly acted on this intelligence, generating a General Diary Entry (GDE) vide Jirighat PS GDE No. 424 dated 24/11/2023.

Subsequently, a joint operation was executed by Nurul Islam, SI, Jirighat Police Station, along with P.S staff and the 29th Assam Rifle team stationed at Jaliura. At approximately 6:30 PM, the team successfully apprehended Henlenmang Lhouvum, a 26-year-old individual hailing from Vill-Motbung Aithuh Veng, P.S-Sapormeina, Dist. Sanapati, Manipur, at Lakhinagar, Khasia Punjee Ghat.

During the search of Lhouvum’s person, formalities were observed, leading to the discovery of a 32 mm Pistol marked as 7.65 USA, one magazine loaded with five rounds of ammunition, and one mobile handset. Nurul Islam, SI, seized the items on the spot in accordance with the provided seizure list.

Preliminary investigations into the case revealed that Lhouvum is an active cadre of the United Tribal Liberation Army, Manipur (S.K Thadow), a terrorist organization notorious for engaging in terror activities. It is alleged that Lhouvum was in possession of the arms and ammunition with the intention of selling them in Lakhinagar.

The seized items, along with the apprehended accused person, are set to be handed over with a Memo of Case Diary (MCD) vide Jirighat P.S GDE No. 424 dated 24/11/2023. Nurul Islam, SI, has formally requested the registration of a case under the appropriate sections of the law against Henlenmang Lhouvum.
