The suicide attempt of a junior doctor has shocked the medical fraternity of Cachar. The junior doctor who is an SMCH pass out was just posted in Kalain Community Health Centre as a part of rural service. The MBBS doctor was lying unconscious when found in his rented apartment in Kalain this morning.

A resident of College Road, Silchar, the doctor was posted at Kalain Community Health Centre as a part of his rural health service. The doctor who graduated from Silchar Medical College and Hospital used to stay in a rented room adjacent to the hospital. Today morning when he didn’t show up at the health centre, his senseless body was found by his colleagues from the room. According to the available information, his body was found on the floor, drenched in blood.

His colleagues then rushed him to the health centre where he was posted, but given the severity of the situation, he was rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment. This news has saddened medical professionals, especially young doctors who are posted in far-flung areas as a part of their rural posting.

According to our source in the SMCH, his condition right now is stable and is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. The source also said the various mental stress upon him has compelled him to take such a savage step. All the doctors have to compulsorily provide one year of rural service after completing their MBBS. During such postings, many of the new doctors are posted in remote villages away from their families.
