Kabarsthan Committee in Karimganj unanimously decides to not allow burial for drug consumers and distributors

In a significant development, the Muslim community in Karimganj has collectively declared a resolute stance against drug users and suppliers, as well as money lenders who charge interest. The Maizdihi Kabarsthan Committee, representing the Maizdihi cemetery, located in Karimganj, issued a notification vowing to not allow burials for individuals involved in the consumption or distribution of recreational drugs, and those who charge exorbitant interest rates from borrowers.

This momentous decision was reached through unanimous agreement among the three mosque committees of Maizdihi, emphasising the community’s commitment to combat the menace of drug abuse and usury. Furthermore, it was decided that even family members of individuals engaged in these unlawful activities would be barred from burial at the Maizdihi cemetery.

The Maizdihi Kabarsthan Committee convened a crucial meeting to discuss the cemetery’s development at Maizdihi Saral Kha Road, where the aforementioned decisions were solidified. The prohibition extends to the distribution and consumption of all forms of recreational drugs, including heroin, yaba tablets and cannabis. Likewise, illegal money lenders who charge excessive interest rates will face the same restrictions, both in life and after their demise. Additionally, a social boycott of those engaging in these crimes was also unanimously agreed upon.

This resolute stand against drug offenders and usurious money lenders gained traction after former MLA and current Central Secretary of Nadwatut Tamir, Maulana Ataur Rahman Mazharbhuiya, called upon the Muslim community to not bury Muslims in graveyard who are involved in vices like addiction, during a joint anti-drug meeting convened by the Karimganj District administration and North East India Emarat-e-Shariah Nadwatut Tameer.
