Kaibarta Samaj Unnoyon Parishad terms people opposing delimitation as extremists; Plans grand felicitation for CM's visit
Members of Kaibarta Samaj Unnoyon Parishad shared their thoughts on the bandh with journalists yesterday and outlined their future plans regarding the delimitation of seats in Barak Valley. Speaking to journalists, a member of the Parishad claimed that the bandh had not been successful as vehicles were plying on the roads and shops remained open. They emphasised the importance of avoiding bandhs and mass rallies that could disrupt the lives of daily wage laborers, while urged organisations to present their objections before the Election Commission through proper channels.
The Parishad announced its intention to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission on behalf of their organisation and the wider Hindu community. They aimed to advocate for the implementation of the delimitation draft as a law. However, they accused certain fundamentalist organisations, who they claimed hold animosity towards Barak Valley and its Hindu population, of opposing the delimitation.
Highlighting the potential impact of the delimitation, the member asserted that most of the times Muslim candidates used to win from Borkhola and Katigorah constituencies after independence. With the new delimitation, he guaranteed that no Muslim candidate would be able to secure victory from these places in future. The cancellation of two assembly seats was also seen as a positive development by the Parishad, as they claimed to know which people won from those seats and suggested that the closure of their political shops should be welcomed whole heartedly by the Hindu community.
Furthermore, the member praised the Chief Minister for what they perceived as freeing the Hindu community of Barak from curse. In anticipation of the Chief Minister’s visit to Barak in future, the Parishad announced plans to grandly felicitate him, indicating that they had prepared a garland of flowers as a gesture of appreciation.
