Kalibari Chor clash: Police arrests two, forces deployed in the area to ensure peace

Cachar Police have arrested two in connection with Sunday night’s clash between two particular communities in Kalibari Chor. Two taken into custody are identified as Rabi Das and Raku Chandra Das, were arrested from Kalibari Chor area suspected to have connection with the incident.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy said that some people in the region are suspected of having connection with Sunday night’s chaos. Today, two people have been arrested and Police detained a few to bring situation under control.

It is to be noted that the clash between the two groups in the Kalibari Chor area on Sunday night resulted in a very unpleasant environment. The paramilitary forces, State Police and CRPF were deployed to deal with the situation. About ten people were injured in the incident.

According to the locals, at around 10:30 pm, a group of strangers were pelting stones at the houses in the adjoining areas of Gata Colony and Madhurband . The locals reacted to the sudden attack and the attack and counter attack resulted in a very volatile scenario. The locals also informed that this stone pelting has been going on since a few days.

An emergency meeting was organised today at Silchar Police Station under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner S. Laxmanan. Police Super Rakesh Roushan, members of various political parties and representatives of the area, participated in it. The district appealed people to maintain peace and harmony. He said that thousands of families have been together for a long time, if anybody wants to spread mischief in the name of communalism in the area, then the local people should take a firm stand against such propaganda.

Police Superintendent Rakesh Roushan said in a strict language that Police will not compromise on the safety of the people. The police and Army Jawans who worked hard to deal with the situation on Sunday night will be commended and they will continue to monitor the area to ensure peace and harmony. “The details of the incident are being investigated and none of the culprits will manage to escape” ensured Roushan.

On behalf of the BJP, Dipayan Chakraborty, Suryakanta Sarkar on behalf of congress and municipality member Rajesh Kumar Das, Jhalak Chakraborty and others took part in the meeting.

Throughout the day reports of many unusual incidents kept coming in. A man was mob-lynched in Bhagarpar Area and he filed an FIR in Silchar Police Station. In Janiganj area a group of people threatened the shopkeepers in the area and asked them to shut their shops.
