Karimganj murder: Police arrests 2 so far; probable case of mishandling of funds

Joydeep Dey, a resident of Bipin Paul road, Karimganj was found dead on Thursday evening. Dey’s body was recovered from a parking lot located near Bhola Guesthouse in Ghatline, Karimganj. Today, residents of the district blocked the national highway demanding immediate action against the culprits. Superintendent of Karimganj Police Manabendra Deb Roy spoke to the protesters and assured them that the Police will nab the culprits within 24 hours.

Living up to its promise, Karimganj Police have so far arrested two individuals in connection to the brutal murder. As per Police sources, first they searched for Dey’s colleague Shartak Nag but he could not be traced. Police officials then raided Nag’s Subhash Nagar residence and summoned his family members on Thursday night. Friday morning, they managed to track Nag, and the SP himself interrogated him for hours. Police officials informed us that they have gathered information about a possible argument between Nag and Dey which took place on Thursday afternoon.

During the interrogation, as per sources, Nag revealed that Subhash Namasudra a resident of Sarashi had murdered Dey. Soon after that Police arrested Namasudra and is interrogating him. If sources are to be believed, Dey who got married a few days back had joined office after a 15-day break. As the manager of Sugam Transport, he asked Shartak Nag to show him the account statement. Nag, as per sources, could not provide a proper statement as he had allegedly mishandled the fund. This happened to be the cause of argument and is also suspected to be the reason why Dey was murdered.

However, the locals also alleged that Sugam Transport runs a fraudulent business. In order to investigate the matter in details, Police also summoned the owner of Sugam Transport for interrogation. While there are many speculations doing rounds, a senior Police official in the investigating team said it would not be fair to speculate anything at this stage as the investigation is still going on.

On the other hand, Joydeep Dey’s family is in deep distress.
