Karimganj Police arrest man for allegedly attempting to kidnap minor, timely intervention from officials saves him from getting lynched

Silchar Road in Karimganj sparked a serious issue of law and order when a man was confronted by locals for allegedly attempting to kidnap a minor resident who was returning from her tuition.

The locals alleged that the man forced her to sit on his motorcycle with the intention of kidnapping her. Some even alleged that the man belonging to a different religious belief and accussed him of attempting love jihad. These allegations provoked an outburst of anger and the mob took over law and order launching a massive physical attack on the alleged culprit.

The matter was informed to the Karimganj Police Station and officials from the Town Branch rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Some of the eyewitnesses said that if the Police had not intervened timely, the man would have got lynched by the mob.

The officials rescued the individual from the mob and then took him to the Police Station. “We have registered a case against the alleged individual under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The matter is being investigated further and Karimganj SP Partha Protim Das is himself supervising the chain of affairs,” stated a senior Police official in the district headquarters.

As per the latest available information, the Police officials are expecting the family or acquaintances to lodge an FIR based on which further investigation will proceed.
