Karimganj Police recovers Heroin worth Rs 22 crores, Yaba tablets; “Packets were in a secret chamber”, Additional SP, Partha Protim Das
Karimganj Police is back at their anti-narcotic mission. Yesterday, a team led by the Additional SP of Karimganj Police recovered a huge quantity of heroin and Yaba tablets from the same vehicle. The vehicle was coming towards Karimganj from Mizoram and was apprehended in Contactcherra in Karimganj. Two people were arrested in this connection who are residents of Tripura.
Last night in an operation led by the Additional SP of Karimganj, IPS Partha Protim Das this huge quantity of narcotics was confiscated from two peddlers. According to the police information, this drug operation was based on a secret input by the Additional SP Partha Protim Das. A naka checking was put at various locations in the Nagra area in Karimganj which falls near the tri-junction border to Tripura and Mizoram. The Additional SP has informed Barak Bulletin that, during naka checking the police intercepted one Bolero Vehicle bearing registration number AR 01D 5996 and recovered 131 soap cases of heroin weighing 2.114 Kg and 50 thousand YABA tablets.
The vehicle was intercepted at Contactcherra which falls under the Bazaricherra Police Station in Karimganj. IPS Partha Protim in this regard also said, “This is one of the biggest recoveries so far. In the same operation, both Yaba tablets and heroin soap cases were found from one vehicle. The narcotic substances were hidden in secret chambers fitted below the vehicle, inside the gearbox and even inside the rear lights of the vehicle. The market value of both heroin and Yaba tablets is estimated to be around 22 crores”.
The two arrested individuals are 22-year-old Gopendu Das and Kabir Ahmed, who is just 19 years old. Both of them are residents of Dharmanagar in Tripura. The narcotic substances were being peddled to the Patharkandi area by them. The Karimganj police have initiated further necessary action into this.
