
Karimganj Police seizes 88 kgs of Yaba tablets worth Rs. 60; "Patrolling team was offered Rs 20 lakhs by driver, they rejected bribe," CM lauds honesty
Massive success for Karimganj Police as the team under the leadership of SP Padmanabh Baruah, seized around 88 kgs of Yaba tablets from Nischintapur village of Bagargul area in Karimganj district and detained one peddler.
The alleged peddler has been identified as Jamal Uddin, was detained while trying to transport these Yaba tablets via an Alto (AS/10/A/6487). The estimated market value of the seized tablets is approximately Rs 60 crore, according to Police sources.
Karimganj Police is Interrogating the detained peddler to gather more information about the nexus. Sources informed, the officials are now trying to identify the roots of this racket and trying to target the destination where the consignment was supposed to be shipped by the detained individual.
It has also come to light that the police unit responsible for patrolling the area was offered Rs 20 lakhs by the driver to release the vehicle which they vehemently rejected.
Lauding the honest efforts of the Police formation, Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on his Facebook page, “Karimganj Police leading by example! In the morning today, the patrolling party of Bagargool AD camp, along with Maiz Bagargool VDP team, intercepted a 4-wheeler vehicle & recovered 7,59,200 WY/Yaba tablets packed in 76 packets. One of the biggest haul ever!”
The chief minister added, “What’s heartening! The patrolling team was offered Rs 20 lakhs by driver to release the vehicle, which it rejected, displaying great honesty, integrity & dedication to service. The team will be rewarded by Government of Assam for its loyalty & sense of duty. Compliments to Assam Police. PROUD!”
