The body of 25-year-old Kabir Ahmed Lashkar, who was murdered by his lover in Mumbai, will reach Hailakandi tomorrow. The young boy, who resided in Katlicherra, Dholai Molai area had gone to Bangalore a few years back in search for a job. He soon started working in a cycle shop owned by Ruma Begum and her husband Anwar Hussain. While working there, Kabir and Ruma fell in love and started having an affair.

Kabir’s body was found in his rented apartment in a Thane (Mumbai) on March 19. On talking to neighbours they found out that a woman had visited his home recently. Post initial investigation, the police launched a search operation and arrested Ruma (28) from Bangalore as a suspect. The woman in police custody confessed that despite being married, she had an affair with Kabir since few years. While she had refused his proposal, Kabir had been persistent on marrying her. Sources in police informed us that Ruma in her statement mentioned that Kabir promised her that if she leaves her husband and children, and comes to Mumbai, he will marry her. Kabir had recently shifted to Mumbai and had started working in a cycle factory in New Mumbai’s Nerul area.

On March 16, when Ruma reached Mumbai and knocked Kabir’s door, he refused to marry her. This irked Ruma and the next night when he was sleeping, she first hit him on his head and then with a help of a cloth strangled Kabir to death. She then chopped off his private parts and even poured rat kill in his mouth to assure death. After this horrifying crime, she took a flight back to Bangalore the next day.

Kabir’s family has been waiting for the body since then. The mortal remains have reached Guwahati via air and will reach Katlicherra tomorrow.
