Kaushik Rai inaugurates state-of-the-art rice mill in Udharbond
A state-of-the-art rice mill was opened today at Durganagar Pt.-III, Udharbond, marking a transformative step for Barak Valley’s agricultural sector. Precise Agro Mills & Space LLP, backed by the Assam Government’s subsidy scheme, aims to enhance paddy milling capacity and streamline rice production in the region. The event was graced by Minister Kaushik Rai and other distinguished dignitaries, who highlighted the government’s vision for agricultural development.
The grand opening of the rice mill was attended by Chief Guest, Minister Kaushik Rai, along with Guests of Honour MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA Udharbond, Mihir Kanti Shome and District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS.
Minister Kaushik Rai, addressing the media, credited Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his efforts in uplifting the state’s agriculture. He emphasised the government’s commitment to improving paddy procurement, stating, “This year, Assam has achieved 1.48 lakh metric tonnes of paddy procurement. However, procuring paddy is just one step; it needs to be milled as well. Barak Valley previously lacked such a facility, not anymore. The Assam Government has subsidised this project, fulfilling a promise made during the 2022 cabinet meeting in Silchar. If anyone opens a mill in Barak Valley, the government will provide up to 50% subsidy.”
Rai also highlighted that this initiative aligns with the government’s vision of making Assam a multi-crop state and improving farmers’ livelihoods. He stated, “Paddy from Barak Valley can now be milled in the valley itself, bringing greater convenience and efficiency to the region.”
District Commissioner Mridul Yadav lauded the initiative, calling it a pivotal development for Cachar and Barak Valley. He remarked, “This is not just a huge step for the Assam Government but also for Barak Valley. The CM had a vision to establish modern mills in every district, and this scheme of a 50% subsidy was granted specifically to Barak Valley, whereas the rest of the state receives a 35% subsidy.”
The opening of the rice mill is anticipated to significantly improve the region’s paddy milling capacity, addressing a longstanding need for such infrastructure in Barak Valley. By enabling milling within the valley itself, it is expected to reduce reliance on facilities outside the region, streamlining the process for local farmers. Additionally, the establishment of the mill is likely to create new business and employment opportunities, contributing to the economic activity within the area.
With the opening of Precise Agro Mills & Space LLP represents a significant stride in the agricultural progress of Assam. By supporting local production and processing, the state aims to strengthen the economy and ensure better returns for farmers. This project reflects the Assam Government’s aim to transform the agricultural sector. However, the success of any initiative depends on its execution. While it is expected to bring positive results, the actual impact can only be assessed over time.
