Shanu Das, a seven-year-old student of a school in Hailakandi district was injured in a mysterious way. The family has alleged that two unknown youths tried to circumcise him with a blade. The incident took place in Gharmura’s Sisumangal Vidyapith. The Class 2 student got seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

On behalf of the family, a report has been filed at the Hailakandi Police Station. According to the family members, after returning from school on Monday, their son looked ill. With his condition deteriorating, the parents took him to a nearby hospital on Wednesday. After the primary medical treatment by the local doctor did not help, he was taken to a government hospital, that referred him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

Initially, the child was scared to reveal his ordeal but he narrated the incident to his mother while undergoing treatment.

According to the statement of the child, in the absence of the teacher, two students of another class called him to the school’s toilet. There, an unidentified young man, whose face was covered with cloth, told him, ‘Let’s circumcise you, it will be holy’. The seven-year-old child, unaware about either circumcision or virtue, followed the man because of his innocent curiosity. But as he started the process, the pain made him realise there was something wrong and he started an alarm. Sensing trouble, the culprit fled, leaving the kid injured. The child knew that he wouldn’t be able to explain the injury or what just happened with him and thus decided to keep quiet.

Later, the child’s mother, Paramita Das told Ramnathpur police that she received threats from the school authorities after she told them about the matter. Meanwhile, Ashok Uddin Barwuya, a teacher working at the school, refuted these allegations and said this is a planned plot to stop the school and create communal disharmony. He told that the school has 14 teachers and 8 of them are from the Hindu Community. There are boundaries in the school and also provision for parents to sit inside the school. Parents from every community are present in the premise during school hours and it’s not possible for any outsider to enter the school and it is unrealistic.

Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Sanghati Mancha, International Human Rights Organisation and many more wanted to know from the school authorities how could a fanatic youth enter the school and harm a kid, but they got no concrete reply. They have further demanded that if the culprits are not immediately put under the purview of investigation, then they will do more massive agitations.

On Saturday noon, DSP Nirmal Ghosh of Hailakandi district along with other police officials came to Silchar Medical College Hospital and Hospital (SMCH) and took a statement from the injured kid. Nirmal Ghosh said that investigations are underway on the basis of the complaint, but the actual incident will come to light only after the medical examination of the child is done. The culprits will not be spared is what the DSP said.
