Karimganj MP Kripanath Mallah on Wednesday met the union minister for railways Ashiwini Vaishnav and submitted a proposal to increase the frequency of Barak Brahmaputra express, which operates between Silchar and Tinsukia once in a week.
The MP stated that the train happens to be choice of innumerable people of Barak Valley and therefore extending its service to twice a week will be beneficial in this regard.
The MP met with the minister on sidelines of the parliament and submitted a series of demands to the minster. Among others, Mallah urged the railway minister to extend the railway line from Chandkhira (Patharkandi) to Kanmun (Mizoram) Via Lowairpoa in Karimganj constituency.
Survey for the said line was completed much ago but thereafter the proposal was kept in cold storage.
“The people living in the remote area of my constituency Karimganj and Hailakandi district bordering Mizoram are totally deprived from getting the cheapest and safest transportation facilities of train. Further, it is felt very much necessary for extension of the above said alignment as the survey has already conducted by the concern department earlier about the said railway line. In view of the above, I request you kindly to make necessary arrangements for the extension of the said alignment for the greater interest of the people of remote area in my parliamentary constituency” he wrote in the memorandum.
He also demanded for an over bridge at the entrance of the Siddeshwar Shiva temple in Panchgram and RoBs at multiple locations of Karimganj and Hailakandi.
