Lakhipur MLA, Congress' Rajdeep Goala to join BJP, confirms Himanta Biswa Sarma
NEDA chief Himanta Biswa Sarma, while speaking with Barak Bulletin has confirmed that Rajdeep Goala, Lakhipur MLA will join BJP in “next couple of days”. Lakhipur MLA, Rajdeep Goala is the son of seven times MLA from the same constituency, Dinesh Prasad Goala. The family has always had a strong foothold among the tea-garden voters.
The finance, health, education and PWD minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma faced the press contingent a little while ago and there too he said, “I can confirm that Lakhipur MLA will join BJP ceremoniously in next couple of days.”
Just before the 2021 Assembly elections, BJP is burning its midnight oil to ensure that it is putting its best foot forward. Lakhipur is one such constituency that the BJP has never managed to crack, on the other hand, since 1983, it is the Goala family that has remained undisputed in this constituency. The tea-garden vote base of Congress was under stress and the Panchayat elections prove that. With Goala switching parties, it remains to be seen who the Congress decides to field against him.
Meanwhile, it also remains to be seen if Rajdeep Goala who first became an MLA in 2014 and then retained his seat in 2016 manages to deliver BJP the seat it never won.
