Lakhipur Police foils drug smuggling attempt, Arrests two smugglers with 356 grams of Heroin
In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Lakhipur Police successfully apprehended two drug smugglers red-handed with a substantial haul of narcotics. The operation, carried out at a residence adjacent to Phulertal Block Office under Lakhipur Police Station, resulted in the arrest of Howan Rongmei, son of Tiendai Rongmei, and Emmanuel Rongmei, son of Atau Rongmei. The accused were caught with 356 grams of heroin cleverly concealed within 30 soap cases.
The commendable efforts leading to the arrests were made by the vigilant team consisting of SDPO Dinesh Prasad and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamlesh Sharma Singh of Lakhipur Police Station. The operation, which took place on Friday, was a culmination of precise intelligence and strategic planning.
According to reliable sources, the police raided the residence while the smugglers were in the process of packing the illegal drugs into soap cases, likely indicating their intention to transport the contraband discreetly.
Howan Rongmei, residing in Ward Number 5 of Lakhipur town, and Emmanuel Rongmei, from Ward Number 6 of Lakhipur city, now face charges related to drug trafficking, and the law will take its course to ensure justice is served.
At the time of this report, the market value of the seized drugs remains undisclosed. Nonetheless, the efforts of the Lakhipur Police in curbing drug-related activities have been lauded by the conscientious citizens of the region. In recent days, the police have managed to confiscate narcotics worth several lakhs of rupees, further bolstering their resolve to tackle the menace of drug smuggling in the area.
